Facilities Engineer 08-09 Raytheon Polar Services - Experience Antarctica

Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? How would you like to be one of the few people on the planet to have the opportunity to live and work in Antarctica? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently looking for Facilities Engineers to deploy to McMurdo or South Pole research stations on a contract basis beginning in August of 2008.

There are three lengths for the contracts: Summer-(Approximately) August or October through February, Winter-(Approximately) February through October, and Year-Long-(Approximately) October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements.

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for engineering investigations of facilities, equipment and operational issues. This position will be involved in designing, planning and executing small engineering projects as well as defining and budgeting large future projects to include writing new project proposals for McMurdo Station in Antarctica. While deployed, the Facilities Engineer will be responsible for conducting facility assessments, code compliance, Direct Digital Control (DDC) system operation and maintenance.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum four years of increasing responsibility in facilities engineering activities to include investigation of maintenance issues, management change, minor construction projects and definition of new project work and project proposals required.
  • Must be highly knowledgeable in building systems to include : HVAC, boilers, furnaces, and hydronic heating systems, plumbing and electrical systems, energy conservation and fire protection.
  • BS in Engineering required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Direct Digital Controls (DDC) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of water purification and power generation facilities is preferred.
  • Experience in project design, specification preparation and review, project scheduling, and project cost estimating is preferred.
  • Experience in preventive maintenance and work control systems is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration preferred.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

Additional Polar Information
Contract compensation includes reimbursement of expenses to physically qualify, weekly salary, travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
